Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.

8Dec06   The main objective of this rebuild was to stop -- or at least slow down -- the rate at which this 383 LT1 burned oil. It was consuming oil at a rate of 1 quart avery 500 miles.  Did tightening the main and rod bearing clearances along with replacing the HV oil pump with a stock unit do any good?

Nope...  It still uses EXACTLY as much oil as it always has.  Bummer.

What about running rich?  I discovered something interesting.  The headers were actually sucking air into the system through the air reactor pump.  Block learns in cell 16 had always been about 137 or so.  I placed a cap over the intake of the air reactor pump and the cell 16 block learns fell IMMEADIATLY to 128!

Overall drivability and part throttle response improved greatly.  However, the motor STILL runs  rich and deposits black soot on the rear bumper.
